What we collect

When you use OpenStreetProblem, we collect only what's needed to make the platform work:

  • Account info — Email address for sign-in (via OTP). Optional: display name and profile photo.
  • Issue reports — Photos, descriptions, categories, and GPS coordinates you submit.
  • Interactions — Upvotes, comments, and group subscriptions.
  • Device data — Browser type, screen size, and approximate location (for map features). No fingerprinting.

How we use it

  • Display your reports on the public feed and map.
  • AI classification of issue type and severity (processed server-side, not shared with third parties).
  • Duplicate detection to reduce noise.
  • Send you sign-in codes and optional notifications you subscribe to.
  • Aggregate, anonymous stats (e.g., “42 potholes reported this week in Brooklyn”).

What we never do

  • Sell your personal data. Ever.
  • Share your email with advertisers or third parties.
  • Track you across other websites.
  • Store your precise location history beyond what you explicitly report.

Photos & location

Photos you upload are stored securely and displayed publicly as part of your report. GPS coordinates are attached to reports to show them on the map. You can see the exact coordinates before submitting. We strip EXIF metadata from images. We do not access your camera or location in the background.

Data storage & security

Your data is stored on encrypted servers. We use HTTPS everywhere. Authentication uses secure, time-limited OTP codes — no passwords stored. We follow industry-standard practices to protect your information.

Third-party services

We use the following:

  • Google OAuth — for authentication.
  • Resend — for transactional emails (OTP codes).
  • Cloud hosting — for database and file storage.

We do not sell your data to third parties.

Your rights

  • Access — Request a copy of your data at any time.
  • Delete — Request account and data deletion.
  • Export — Download your reports and activity.

Contact us at privacy@openstreetproblem.com for any privacy requests.

Cookies

We use essential cookies only — session tokens for authentication. No tracking cookies. No analytics cookies. No cookie banners needed.

Children

OSP is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Significant changes will be announced via the app. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision.
